Playing closer to the bridge can help as there's less string movement so you're not chasing thenm around as much. Even if you don't like the tone, it's a good starting point until you get the hang of it.

Exactly, so if your bass is set up properly and all of those things are at a point where manual drop-tuning doesn't affect the tunings of the other strings, then you shouldn't have any issues when using the Xtender (always makes me think of Alan Partridge :laugh:)

I had issues with the nise gate too. just had to trouble shoot my entire rig to figure out why i was getting a click/electrical pop when i started playing. turns out it was the noise gate. still works ok if it's turned right down to around 9 o'clock which helps for excessive noise between songs...
