Darkglass Element vs Boss Katana GO or other suggestions

Went with the Katana GO, received it today and messed around with it. This is exactly what I was looking for, a simple mobile practice setup that sounds good in headphones. Interestingly I usually don't like reverb on bass or effects that try to mimic large rooms/halls, but the first stage...

Darkglass Element vs Boss Katana GO or other suggestions

Thanks for the reply, I'm in a very similar situation. Quick question about the Katana GO, can you put an outboard preamp (Sadowsky SBP2) before it if you wanted?

Darkglass Element vs Boss Katana GO or other suggestions

Thanks everyone for the suggestions and input! I think I'm leaning towards the Katana GO as this will be purely for practice. I really like the idea of not having to plug anything into an outlet and playing the backing tracks or tunes through bluetooth, I think a simple set up like this will...

Darkglass Element vs Boss Katana GO or other suggestions

I'll look into this, thank you for the suggestion. That seems to be in the ballpark I'm looking for, although the price is pretty high. Does anyone know how the Phil Jones Bighead compares to the Boss Katana GO?

Darkglass Element vs Boss Katana GO or other suggestions

I'm currently stuck to mainly practicing through headphones and am using a Scarlett focusrite to do so. I find there's a bit of latency if I try to use a DAW andI find it a but difficult to dial in a good sound with MainStage, not to mention it's a bit of a hassle to set up the interface every...

Pickup upgrade for Fender Pro Jazz V

Yeah I get a bit confused between the whole vintage/modern tone thing because I think what a lot of people refer to as modern is the scooped hifi thing with the deep lows and glassy highs. But guys like Marcus Miller have been using this for decades. So to me the tone I’m after and what I’m...

Pickup upgrade for Fender Pro Jazz V

Just for reference here’s an idea of the tone I’m going for. Understanding that he’s using a fodera with humbuckers and Sharay is an absolute beast, but digging the fat tone he gets.

Pickup upgrade for Fender Pro Jazz V

Thanks a lot guys, definitely going to contact Lindy Fralin and see if the 5% overwound is what I’m looking for. I have considered HC and I was just looking at Bartoloni B-axis pickups today. I just have a feeling I might miss that growl that you can get with single coils.

Pickup upgrade for Fender Pro Jazz V

Hey there, wondering if anyone has advice or suggestions for upgrading the V Mod pickups on my Pro Jazz V. I find the V mods can do the hi fi Marcus Miller sound which is great, but they seem to lack some low end punch or fatness. About 10 years ago I put together a Warmoth fretless jazz 4...

    Stingray 5 as only bass

Really appreciate all the replies. I'm going to take the common advice and keep the Stingray, and then save up for a 4 string for down the road! Was playing last night and realized that I would definitely regret trading/selling it.

    Stingray 5 as only bass

Hey, So a few years ago I traded for a Stingray 5 and its been my only bass. I like it a lot but I miss having a 4 string, there's just something in the tone of a 4 string that I feel 5s don't get. As well I prefer slapping on a 4. I have the opportunity to trade my stingray 5 (2000) for an...

    Stingray5 compared to Stingray4

A lot of great responses, thanks guys! I'm definitely thinking it's the preamp, that would make sense. It's still an awesome sounding instrument, just a different tone from the 4. was just looking at the Nordstrand MM5.2 pickups, they look interesting

    Stingray5 compared to Stingray4

The strings are a good point, I was using dr fat beams on the 4, and now I'm using Dunlop super bright nickels on the 5, I'm going to try a fat beam 5 string set and see if that's what my ears are hearing. Thanks for the suggestion
