    On Memorising Jazz Melodies

Cheers guys, I think I'd come across that thread before, but the singing thing is definitely something I've been giving a lot of attention in recent weeks.

    On Memorising Jazz Melodies

Hey Guys, So I'm just curious to see how you approach this topic. A great interest of mine recently has been in developing the ability to play whatever lines or melodies or chord changes in all twelve keys. While the bass is a great instrument for utilising patterns, I feel that in order to...

Alternative (probably for some) scale practice method and issues

I agree completely. The two octave scale method was how I was initially taught to practice scales, but what I'm looking at doing with this particular exercise is trying to find a way to eliminate the root bias that seems to creep in, hence my attempt to adapt Levine's method.

Alternative (probably for some) scale practice method and issues

Hey Guys, Straight to the point, I've been studying Mark Levine's Jazz Theory Book recently (great book, highly recommended) and have been testing out his suggested method of practicing scales. The idea is that instead of running the scale root to root and back down, you play root to...

    What can Musicians Accomplish

Hi all, just out for an opinion (and a bit of motivation), what do you feel a musician can accomplish beyond the basic gigging, bringing some entertainment to the everyday person and such? I study music at a conservatory (living at college), with a lot of friends studying medicine, engineering...

    Learning Scales Differently

Sorry, just to clarify, where you say arpeggiate with the i, v, iii of each progression's scale degree what exactly do you mean? Just a little confused by the wording.

    Another practice routine...

I should clarify I don't mean just basic slap, I'm very into the double thump-double pluck type of thing and it's application to improvisation. I like to envision the day my technique just sort of boils down to a single style into which all of the components of fingerstyle, slap, pop and...

    Another practice routine...

Hey guys, I've been working on developing an effective practice routine recently and this post is just basically to throw it out there for whoever to checkout and to leave constructive feedback and suggested refinements if they so desire. First a little background (if you're only interested...

    Learning Scales Differently

You hit the nail on the head with the need for a curriculum. One of the biggest things I struggle with as a jazz student at uni is effectively managing practice time with so much to cover between, acoustic electric, technique, listening, aural e.t.c

    Mystery Speaker Death

Right, sorry, just to clarify, I patch a guitar lead from the effects loop send of the GK to the input (where i'd normally plug in) of my old BVT. Do I need to have a cab connected to each?
