Influences and Teachers
1st, the genius Jamerson ("play what you feel")... Sir Paul, Squire (seeing Yessongs at a midnite show in 10th or 11th gr.changed "things") Geddy, Rutherford; JPJones, Prakash John, Gary Thain, The Ox, the great Eddie Durham, Duck Dunn, Larry Graham.Like many this list is long, long, long...
Contemporary additions: Roscoe Beck, with Eric Johnson, one heck of a relentless bass player; Victor Wooten, whose playing says enough, but as an author/mentor, he excels also. The "problem" with his books, is that, they make you think! His brother Joseph (keyboards) is a special guy too!

WABC am radio in NYC w/ Cousin Brucie...listened to the plethora of diverse songs in the 60's & 70's that were on AM radio, before FM hit the air waves.
My MIJ Sony transistor radio... We were just at the edge of the range for WABC radio, but most of the time, I could pick up the station, and listened to all those hits, through my earphone if I had to!

My 5-8gr band (trumpet & baritone) director, Leonard Mumbaur, who transcribed Beatles, Santana, Blood, Sweat n Tears, Chase, Carol Kaye and more, for us to play... Really got us to invest in music, playing the hits we heard on the radio was so cool!(high school band director was an ass, though we did Chicago's "25 or6 to 4" & "I Wanna be Free" in marching band, left after freshman year, as many did. F'n Jerk made us choose between sports n music. I felt a real hole in my music development when I bought fly first bass in 77/78)

My 400lb+ accordian teacher "Zack," (Polish last name with more consonants than vowels)-- He had a music store in Florida, NY with Fenders & Gibsons on the wall, and records bins full of all those '60's recordings. Used to look at all the records and just stare at the instruments on the wall while I waited for my lessons... gave first performances in 3rd/4th grade -- even then, playing for people gave me that rush -- "Everybody Polka!"

Kate Hanson, church choir director... Early ear training, starting at around 8yrs old...
Hobbies and Interests
Teaching skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, Working out/rehab in water, working on my Victorian house (of which, the previous owners were idiots)
