When did weight become the top priority in a bass?

At age 78 with arthritis starting to creep into my back and hands I thought I would try a smaller scale neck (mainly for my hands) and ended up buying a medium scale (32") MTD LK4. I was not thinking about weight when I got it and did not realize it was so much lighter than my P bass and Ken...

    Getting back into bass, reccomendations?

I can totally relate to your question. I grew up playing a P bass and five years ago decided to go active and sold the P bass to buy a beautiful Ken Smith 4 string. It is truly an amazing instrument but am currently playing in a classic r&b band and missing the "Jamerson" sound which ain't...

Markbass Head Cut Out During Gig?

Just reading this thread because the same thing happened to me! My new-ish LM II Vintage (with tube pre) went dead in mid-gig. Swapped out the head with my Epiphani 901 that I have in my rack for bigger gigs and finished the set. Tried the LM II again before packing up my gear... worked fine...

I drive it with my new 500 watt Markbass Little Mark Vintage D2 that is 5lbs... with a 12AX7 tube no less. By far the best sounding rig I've...

    Expensive vs inexpensive basses

I LOVE my custom Ken Smith 4, but I bought a super cheapie Ibanez to take to picnics on the beach, etc. and I have to say that it really plays well and sounds good. I have ended up performing with it a number of times (by circumstance rather than choice) and it delivered solidly. I would always...

I quit playing for a living about 35 yrs ago because I didn't want to get old schlepping my amp in and out of (then) smokey clubs. I started doing real estate investing which has worked out, but music remains my drug of choice and I still play bass with friends as often as I can.. at age 70 :)
