How to approach choosing my bass?

I like the 5 string for regular finger style playing. For thumbing it feels a bit too tight, but I'm sure with couple of weeks training I probably will adjust to it.

How to approach choosing my bass?

I intend to get rid of the bass I don't like.

How to approach choosing my bass?

Because the lowest notes on the B-string sound like "that's a note" instead of "That's note X". That's just one issue with the bass, but the most important one. And according to internet that is exactly what too short scale on B-string sounds like.

The official "Show your basses" thread part 19!

That looks like something straight out of steampunk :)

How to approach choosing my bass?

I don't believe that a single bass will cover all the things I want from a bass. That's why I'm trying to figure out what would be a good combination of basses that would cover the stuff I need.

Fairly north up in Finland. The nearest well equipped music store with multi scale basses on shelve is probably 500 km / 320 miles away.

How to approach choosing my bass?

Currently the poorly defined sounding B string on my 5 string is holding me back. That's why I started thinking all this.

How to approach choosing my bass?

I currently have my first two cheap basses: Sire / Marcus Miller V3, and Ibanez 305EB. The V3 sounds really good as is. 305EB needs upgrading. I have no set budget. Whatever the bass ends up being that fits my playing and music, I'll save the money for it and buy it. I am interested in...

How to approach choosing my bass?

No specific budget. Whatever the bass ends up being that fulfills my requirements, I'll probably just save enough money to buy it. I try to follow the ideology of "quality over quantity" when it comes to tools. But the problem is that as I'm a beginner, it's hard to tell which tools to spend on...

How to approach choosing my bass?

I'm fairly new to playing bass. I started playing bass about half a year ago and just a week ago started "that" well regarded online bass course, which shall remain unnamed so no-one can accuse me of being an advertisement plant for any company. So. I currently have a 4 string Jazz clone...

Weird chorus type of extra tone in bass sound

Here are pictures of the bass for your reference. The bridge pickup doesn't go any lower than that. The string height seems to be quite high at the last frets of that neck IMHO, if you look at the picture.

When measured like that, the pickups don't go lower than .125 inches measuring the space between the string bottom and the top of the pickup pole.

Weird chorus type of extra tone in bass sound

I'll do that pickup adjustment test tomorrow. I have to go to sleep now. Here's one more test I made a short while ago, if it's of any help for identifying what's going on: I knocked the neck and headstock of the bass while muting the strings. I heard a continuous metallic harmonic resonant...

Weird chorus type of extra tone in bass sound

The strings are round wound strings. One more test: I tried putting a capo fairly high up the neck to reduce any potential vibrations coming from the nut. Then I fretted one of the highest notes on the E string and I still got that weird chorusing sound. I listened closely around the body, both...

Weird chorus type of extra tone in bass sound

I'm performing tests one by one to give you guys even more detailed information: I removed the B string and put it back again making sure it wasn't twisted. The sound was still the same. I tried muting the B string between the fretting finger and the nut. Then I plugged the string and it had...
