    Wanted Travel/Flight Case

Hi everyone, I'm looking for a travel case to bring my bass back from Atlanta to Australia. I bought a case to have it shipped within the US via SW Air Cargo, but it was badly damaged in transit and cannot be reused. This is a bit time sensitive, as I'm leaving for Australia on the 26th of...

    Double Bass Russian songs

I am one of those people who stays in solo tuning almost exclusively. Recently, I've been playing in solo tuning with a drop E or D, as @MikeCanada mentioned. The only time I'm not in solo tuning is when I'm playing in an orchestra, and I usually just change to orchestra strings for those gigs...

Double Bass A New History of the Double Bass

Any chance you'd be willing to sell it or let me rent it? I've always wanted to read this book, but I can't justify the price!

Double Bass Is it so terrible to play a 1/2 size bass?

Are you playing a 1/2 sized bass in that picture or are you just really tall?

Double Bass Finding a Comfortable Seated Position

I play in high heeled shoes because I love them. I think I look great in heels, they give me confidence, and I believe I perform better because of all of these things. And actually, people very much pay attention to the shoes I wear. Admittedly, I'm mostly talking about my solo performances...

Double Bass Is it so terrible to play a 1/2 size bass?

I'm incredibly late to this thread, but I was searching online for smaller instruments to help a fellow vertically-challenged bass player and saw this post. I don't know if you're still considering getting a smaller instrument, or if you have already bought one, but I thought I would chime in...

Double Bass Finding a Comfortable Seated Position

I don't, simply because I think every person is different. I have tried many times to learn to play standing over the years, with help from teachers and colleagues, and it's just not happening for me. I don't know if this has to do with my height, the type of music I play, or just the way my...

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

You're right, it has gotten loads better over the years. The stories my mom and older female friends have told me make me so angry, but also grateful that I have not had to deal with the level of harassment, not to mention sexism, some people have.

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

This made me laugh. But in all seriousness, you're right. Looking back on it, I should have spoken up sooner - I know that now. But when you're in the moment and the lines are incredibly fuzzy, you don't always do the "right" thing. I hope my video helps people recognize when others are...

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

Mike, I knew you would have something great to say about this - I always appreciate your thoughts and points of view, as I think you are always very diplomatic, not to mention well-spoken. I'm sorry you went through what you did. The system failed you, as it does MANY people. I said this...

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

I tried to find the post you are talking about, but I can't seem to find it. Mind sharing the link so those of us who haven't read it can?

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

I don't think I was responding to you when I posted those articles about the "not all men argument," but those are good articles to read and understand nonetheless. I'm not sure I was hoping for any response in particular other than for people to listen and understand the story from the...

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

Haha yep, I've gotten a couple golden responses on my video just this morning. And thank you for saying that - it really does mean a lot. I just have to remind myself that I handled the situation the best I could. You always feel like you could do more, could have done better, but life isn't...

Double Bass Sexual Harassment in an Orchestra

Props to you for being comfortable enough to admit that. That's exactly why we're having this discussion and, again, why I recorded my video. Thanks for having an open mind about this kind of thing.
