If you can't find a BTB805MS to try out, you could check if you're music store has it's little sibling, the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]. It's the same shape, same electronics and pickups, but different wood and different color. Check the 605 for feel, then order the 805.

And there's also the third (and easiest) option: Use a screwdriver to make one side of the pickup lower than the other. I haven't tried this yet, and don't know how it would change the sound. Ibanez should make a video to demonstrate this ability of the T1 pickups.

That's interesting. Will you physically remove one coil from each pickup? How do you expect the sound will change?

    *NEW* Cort A5 Beyond (fan-fretted)

That's true. The Cort's single cut is radical. This Cort is a fine bass guitar. I've heard some people say they like the sound of the Bartolini BH2 pickups - some people like that these pickups aren't bright. I just think that a pickup that produces a wide frequency response is more versatile...

Hmmm. Same density. If it is not the wood, then what could possibly account for the difference in weight between guitars of the same model? Maybe someone's bathroom scales are not adjusted properly?

I didn't know there is weight variation between bass guitars of the same model. I've never heard that before. But remember, there's a reason why not every bass guitar is made with soft & light wood with cavities hollowed out to save weight. You also lose something going that route. According...

If you want ultra lightweight, Ibanez EHB headless multiscale basses are hollowed out and incredibly light. The BTB is all about sustain. Yeah, I find the locking jack annoying too, as the button is too hard to press.

    Ibanez BTB805MS - A radical bass guitar

I'm really enjoying this bass. But I don't think multiscale is easier to play than a regular straight fretted guitar. I made the decision to go multiscale for tone reasons, not far ease of playing reasons. I use the low B string a lot. Not just for low notes. Even when playing higher up on the...

    Ibanez BTB805MS - A radical bass guitar

Ha! I still haven't peeled off the plastic over the pickups. I actually don't know how Ibanez achieved the low-gloss finish. But it looks perfect. This bass still smells new too!

Dingwall is the company that takes the credit for popularising the multiscale bass. But with Dingwall, you pay much more for a musical instrument that was crafted in the Canadian wilderness! There are YouTube videos of legendary bassist Leland Sklar (Link) talking about his switch to Dingwall...

    Ibanez BTB805MS - A radical bass guitar

The only difference between the 805 and the 605 is the tonewood and aesthetic finish. I played both in the store, and couldn't notice the difference. So the 605, with its cheaper wood, is also a fine bass guitar, and you save a few hundred dollars with that one. The more expensive tonewood of...

I guess looks are always a personal thing as people like different things, but according to my eyes, this is one of the best looking bass guitars around.

    *NEW* Cort A5 Beyond (fan-fretted)

Thinking about this, Cort should do a deal with Nordstrand and re-release this bass with Nordstrand pickups for a brighter sound. Pickups that produce sounds from the full frequency spectrum are more vesitile, as the tone knob can dial down the high-end to taste. But if your pickup doesn't have...
