If the preamp is similar to the one in the BZ4000 then there should be a small crosshead screw in the middle of one of one side ... this controls the gain so you can match the levels to the passive mode.

Yeah ... the mediums are too short by an inch and the longs are technically too long by about an inch on the G side. BTW you are just down the road from me ... I'm in Livingston :)

Wrong way ... need shorter not longer. The La Bella's (and it seems most other's) state the wound length as 37 or 38 inches ball to silk, the bz4000 needs between 35.25 and 37 ish. The advertised length for th D'addario string's are 36.25 but there is a link on these forums that seems to...

Remember the bz-4000 is a 2+2 and with the La Bella's the E string has a shorter wound length than the rest of the set. If the G string was also shorter it would be fine. I've got almost a full wrap .... But TBH it's not been a problem for the last year and it didn't bother met till...

Fraid I wouldn't know. This is my first and only bass. Compared to the d'addario round wounds it came with they are definitely easier on my fingers and the sound is only what I can describe as more mellow.
