Just wanted to post a big thanks to all who helped me with my amp. I finally took it out and it ran thru 3 long sets no issues! Glad to have it back. It brought me business, just repaired and did a power section recap on a Svt-CL
All preamp tubes have been tested and swapped/tried including the 6C4.
Yes, agedhorse, that's what I think is happening as well. I've tried touching/moving wires. So many variables.
Perhaps this should be a new thread? ?? I am leaving it here, since the history of what's been done can be remembered - hopefully
I am getting a different hum in each channel. Each hum can be dialed out with the hum balance- However the hum in the other channel will be louder. With both...
Well I found the Bill of Material for the 400. The reason I wanted it was because I have a head that someone took some pieces out of. I can deal, I have a working 800 I'll use to compare, but it would've made things a lot easier. They don't even produce that head anymore do they??
Anyone have Page 34 -on from the Service Manual? Looking for the Bill Of Materials. All the downloads I've found online leave this out.
Thanks in advance
It's seen some miles. The cabinet I purchased for $100 from Jack Daley (Lenny Kravitz). He had stripped off the tolex in preparation of installing new. I then took it and the head on the road with me in various acts- The Throbs (Geffen), Ian Lloyd's Stories (Brother Louie), The Platters...
Happy to report that my SVT is back in service. Biased, hum adjusted, etc. it's reassembled and ready to cause hearing loss. Thanks for the guidance all.
(Next up will be one of my GK 800rb's that blew up over 10 yrs ago. I have another working one to compare it, along with the schematics)
Found the issue!! There was an arc formed between D13 as it connects to the Blue/Yellow secondary of the power transformer. It actually dug a canal across to the R50 circuit. It powers up with no apparent issues. Will now check the voltages @ test points. Thanks to all who harped on checking the...
C10, C12a, C12b all came up good on the capacitor analyzer. So all major caps in the power section are good. It is now time to put some power to the board. Before I do this, I am going to pause to make a speaker cable. Someone so nicely relieved the 2 nice ones I had . I could probably dig...
Update: So far I removed from the circuit, tested and reinstalled Capacitors- C8, C9a, C9b, C12c, C11, all come up good. I did find a loose solder connection on the positive side of C8. Will update findings on C10, C12a, C12b shortly
I look back now and really admire my father-- yes, they sure don't make things like they used to. I also have to set up his Heathkit oscilloscope when I get this thing going. - I never clarified myself, I started on this amp abt 2 yrs ago. The tubes are marked 6/16, it was soon after that I...
