About 6 months ago when I first got my upright bass I accidentally banged it against my door frame :/ I heard what I think was a crack sound, but to my surprise I didn't see any cracks, my bass sounds the same it does have a buzzing sound, but I don't know if that was already there to begin...

So as I was changing the strings on my ibanez sr506 the strings scratched my bridge pickups and each of the holes into my bass guitars nut to the point where bits of plastic from the nut came off. How do I prevent this from ever happening again?
