I just nabbed a great deal on a Diamond Bass Comp with the 18v PS. It arrived after the kid was in bed last night, so I just got to plug it in. So far, I'm REALLY impressed. Definitely colors the sound, but It control the mids in my tone so nicely that I can run a lot hotter without blowing out...

I know he had the ash tray on a lot, but I saw a picture the other day with it off and you can see something under the strings...I’ll see if I can dig it back up. Either way, his strings were muted at the bridge almost always.

James Jamerson had foam under the bridge of his P Bass on nearly every Motown hit. I guarantee it wasn’t for his lack of technique. But damn it sounded good.
