Re. your comment on Nick Lloyd... There is a real nice smallish Nick Lloyd at David Gage in NYC. It is slightly over your listed budget but might be worth checking out.

To my untrained eye it looks like a clean split. Take it to a luthier for a direct evaluation and quote. Tailpiece, bridge, soundpost, glueing the neck back + other splits etc. You're looking at some cost for sure but I have a feeling it is very doable.

Can you post a photo looking into the neck block and the end of neck? Is there much damage there or was it a clean split? Hope the restoration won't be too costly and difficult. Best of luck!!!

A broken bass given to you on Easter Sunday... Come on! You have to get it restored to its prior glory. Can't wait to see some photos and hopefully its resurrected form eventually! All the best

My daughter has a hybrid Upton bass which we bought 2nd hand a while back. One of the tuning machines developed a problem. Hard to explain but it needed to be replaced. I wanted to get an exact match so that I could just replace it on my end and not have to put new screw holes etc on the bass...

Looking for a carved bass with smallish body & shorter scale. You could call it 5/8 I suppose. Ideal bass for this player in question would have narrow shoulders similar to the Quenoil design. Kindly let me know if you have anything in Boston or surrounding areas. Thanks

ok. I got some information from Upton. Carcassi is a small 38" SL bass. Another bass they recommend looking at with a shortish SL is You searched for Klotz | Upton Bass. This ones comes in around 40.5".

@CaseyVancouver thanks for sharing Mary's testimony of her Ham bass. I know that amazing bass as a matter of fact since Mary was my daughter's first teacher some years back in Victoria. I didn't realize it was a shorter SL instrument and had always assumed it is identical to the #1 Ham build...
