Right. I was not sure whether reversing the split pickup would mean different winding/sound since the more bassy strings needs less bass and maybe more clarity for string to string balance. But if the pickup is the same for all five coils I should be fine. I know Fender made some P5 pickups...

I have this 5 string P-bass with the unusual pickup layout of the 2 str pickup covering the B-E strings and consequently the 3 str part covering the A-D-G strings. Does anyone know of a good replacement pickup for that configuration and/or does it matter if I switch the split pickups location.

Don’t know the exact reason but probably because it’s the easiest way to avoid two totally different chain routings. Supposedly the bass uses much less power in passive mode but how much less is hard to know. Maybe more like EMGs? Your guess is as good as mine. Ibanez response on the matter...

Yamahas are usually great instruments too, I’ve had a bunch through the years. Comparing the Yamaha BP series to the MDMs I think mostly comes down to personal taste. Both seems to be high quality and especially the MDM has a very attractive price level regarding that the bass feels so good...

It’s a great bass. It’s similar to a jazz bass but still a new take on the jazz. I like it a lot and have not found any flaws. I have not used it live yet though but it’s definitely a keeper. I recorded part of a Debussy piece if you’re interested to listen on my instagram page:

Ok, thanks. I usually play in passive mode 95% of the time and will probably do so on the MDM too. That means I'll have to remember to unplug it everytime I take a break.

I do agree with Quatschmacher. These are two very different pedals with, what I’d guess, different users in mind. I owned the MXR for a couple of weeks when it was new and hyped up through Ian Allison and social media but I returned it after realizing it’s limitations for my taste and situation...

Do you have an idea of how different the version with the fancier burly top (1606) sounds? It seems to me they should sound very similar since everything except the top is the same… and I like the clean white look :)

It’s sounds really good. Full range, rather warm sounding. A bit on the heavy side but light compared to many classic 410s. I’m happy 😊
