    ampeg good for jazz sound?

The Thing played in my city - the bassist used an SVT and 410 with upright, and sounded fantastic.

    loudest acoustic bass guitar?

An upright ;) ...But seriously, I've heard good things about both Earthwood and Tacoma in terms of volume and tone. Like most others are saying, basically the one with the biggest body possible. Long scale, heavy strings and lots of tension are good too. Basically, more of everything will give...

Drop tune - why is it looked down on?

Well, I've heard the first two called post-metal, among other things, and the last one is... shoegaze influenced metal, I suppose, though the guy behind it says he sees it as writing pop songs...

Drop tune - why is it looked down on?

These are all pretty different to the norm for down-tuned metal stuff, but I think they're all fantastic. In the end it's just a case of whether low tunings are used musically, just like with everything else. Edit: Oh, and Black Sabbath too for an old school perspective on down-tuned metal.

    Shopping for a new bass...

Evening talkbassers, I'm looking to upgrade to a better bass for about $2000 Australian. My current have a Yamaha RBX375 which is giving me a lot of setup issues, and 4 is seeming like the way to go because after playing a few after just playing 5s, they're a lot more comfortable. The...

    This is a title.

Hi, I'm Mike. I've been playing on and off since 2002, mixed with guitar, but over the past 3 years I've been focusing on bass. I currently have a Yamaha RBX375 with some fret/neck issues and an Orange Crush 35B. I'm looking to upgrade to a better bass soon. I'm currently focusing on learning...
