I do this with a 30' scale u-bass Ukulele. Play drop d lead bass on D-A-E and rhythm "guitar" playing blues and flamenco shuffle on E-A-D. Use low d for drones/dyads and heavy muted percussion, and to heel-toe slap the double-d's xP with round wounds to induce buzz you get some limited rasgueado...
