    A seller can be clever and use hidden items such as a bath math, foam pad, etc. to provide the illusion that the instrument has made contact with the ground. I have done this many times myself.

    .....it's already got scratches on it,....it likely has no impact, either way I would say. Nice looking guitar.

    If a bass is already dinged from a gig, then it won't matter what you put it on after that.

    What I think is happening, and what has actually happened in the past is that the finish could be compromised by accidental impressions from surface contact, scratches, hidden finish cracks, etc. Thank you for the question.
