Yup, that is always a factor. I have always believed that this is why Alembic owners are so utterly fervent in their "TOTALLY worth it!" defense of those very expensive basses, which I concede are lovely and sound nice but I bet would not be distinguished from a cheaper instrument in a properly...

I recall seeing a Ritter bass with a price around $20,000, largely because it had good-sized diamonds set into the control knobs. So...
