    Say "Hey" If You're A J. R. R. Tolkien Fan

Yup. I am a Tolkien fan. Amazon paid Tolkien's estate $250 million for the rights. If you prostitute an author's work by adding current culture for commercial gain, what you get is not that author's work.

    Moses Vertical Jump Bass?

If you're still out there 12 years later, the answer is yes . . . details to follow a response. Hope to hear from you!

    Why do folks cut strings?

Why do folks cut strings? Because if I didn't, my basses would look unkempt, make clangy background noises while being played, and be a danger to everyone around me.

So all those things we think make a bass sound different? Maybe not?

Geez . . . . I was NOT DISMISSIVE of Alembics or their owners. The observation applies to ANY expensive instrument, the observation has been made as a matter of how humans are, you and I included. I apologize to any Alembic owners I may have offended, that was absolutely NOT the point.

So all those things we think make a bass sound different? Maybe not?

Yup, that is always a factor. I have always believed that this is why Alembic owners are so utterly fervent in their "TOTALLY worth it!" defense of those very expensive basses, which I concede are lovely and sound nice but I bet would not be distinguished from a cheaper instrument in a properly...

What was your first bass amp and how bad was it?

This is just too funny and weird - my first bass amp was the EXACT same thing: Kustom 100, black, single 15" and woefully underpowered. Diverging a bit on the next amp, which was an Acoustic 150 driving a cabinet with two JBL D140s. And I also only drive manual transmissions, clearly we were...

Dumbest thing you ever did with a bass

You backed completely over it and IMPROVED it?? No, come on, really now . . . .

Perhaps playing music in public is not for you? ;)

    Most Disappointing purchase

It is not "hate" if someone is recounting, accurately, their experiences with something. In the various Rickenbacker posts, there is enough similarity in the details to indicate (to me, at least) that there have been some pretty serious quality issues there. But maybe it was due to particular...

    Rosewood or Maple?

    Obviously you don't carrot all about this subject. . . . .

    That is REALLY pretty.

    I Love Stingrays, but $7,000?

It ought not be a surprise that an active topic on TB can be started by any sort of a post about a bass with a high price tag, since it seems to happen ad nauseam. I recall seeing a Ritter bass with a price around $20,000, largely because it had good-sized diamonds set into the control knobs. So...

Okay, let's be honest, is there a bass that you always have lusted after?

Well, there you go. And as we don't quite say frequently enough in these pages: "Chacun a son gout."

Okay, let's be honest, is there a bass that you always have lusted after?

Kind of surprised that no one has mentioned any of the interesting Ritter basses. Of course, the pricing is scary, and he seems to be doing one-of-a-kind builds, and they aren't headless (but I'm sure that could be done on request), but I would be tempted by this one, because I love purple:
