    Best flatwound strings for fretless

I agree about the Chromes, especially mediums or heavier. I've got them on my fretted Precision & Jazz, but I thought I'd try the Cobalt flats for a change on the fretless, which is, really, kind of a whole different animal than it's fretted siblings. So here's another tale of the EB's breaking...

    Best flatwound strings for fretless

My bass PU's are all DiMarzio hi-output humbuckers. String choice is so important to bass tone, but I think you gotta match the strings with the pickups & try & get the optimal combination of the two.

I just put a set of Ernie Ball medium Cobalt Flats on a Fender Jazz Fretless. I've got a set of D'Addario Chrome Flats waiting in the wings... but I think I like the EB's for now.

D'Addario Chromes User Group- Chromeys Speak Out!

Before putting Chromes on my fretted Jazz (switching from TI's), I tried ErnieBall Cobalt Flats but found the tone too bright. I don't think the Jazz needs help in the brightness dept. Medium Chromes nailed the Goldilocks factor.

Yeah, I went from lights to mediums on both my Precision & Jazz; love the bigger tone. Still on the fence about my fretless Jazz; keeping TI lights on that for now.

Yeah, got medium Chromes on my Fender P and my J. Started with lights but wanted the bigger tone. Still carry TI lights on my Fender Jazz fretless: let's not get crazy now.
