That was my complaint as well and so I upgraded to SR1200 Premium. You got to try one of these basses.

The big singles coil on the sr1200 do a pretty good job as I play covers as well. I think Ibanez is trying to get over this lack of cut in rock/pop environment and their solution was Nordstand big singles. You know your sound so you are the best judge.
