    70's SVT cab... goodbye

I think I may go ahead and try out a 8ohm 15 cab. See how it works, Im just jamming out the house now. If it comes to it later I can always pick up another 8ohm cab. But I think I wanna stick to a 15 because my bass has a bright tone so I wanna get some more lows in the mix. I think Ill hang...

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

Like I said, I drive a honda civic. Would like to transport my own gear without needing someone elses help. I dont really know anyone to borrow a head from and I cant exactly wheel my cab up in a gc. Plus if the 450H is underpowered, the cab still farts and cracks out when the power is pushed...

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

You are right, but Im thinking of all the cash it would cost to buy a tube head. cab = $300 - $400 head = $1000 - $1200 Plus with the age of the cab and the scare that I could have messed it up with the power amp setup... im leaning on the side that the cab could be a little jacked up. I...

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

8 new drivers would not be cheap and my cab looks pretty ragid and could use a restoration. So with all the money that would cost it would make more sense to just buy a new cab. Maybe Ill just bring my head into samash or gc to see if they have one of the ampeg 15 cabs and just see how it works.

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

I always tried to be pretty careful with the crest amp on the cab but after the show I played I was scared I did some damage. But now I dont think I really did. It sounds good at master at max and gain at 12 oclock but its not very loud and anyhting past that then it starts to crap out. So Im...

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

no you read that right, 70's 810's are rated for 300 watt. Actually it may even be 250. Maybe a tube head will fix the volume problems? I dont know? I know that buying a new cab now is more practical now for me financially than a head. Like I said too, I need to downsize. I know the 450H is not...

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

Thanks for your insight, now I will go out and spend upwards to 2 grand on a vintage SVT head

    70's SVT cab... goodbye

So i got my hands on a 73 (I beleive to be) SVT 810 cab. I used it for one show with my old band and afterward I had a speakers farting out on me. I was using a Crest VS900 and sansamp rbi as an amp and Im guessing I pushed it a little harder than I should have. I had some issues with the power...

    Amp clipping? huh?

ARGH! So I had practice last night and hooked up the rig for the first time after the gig. The first note I hit... RATTLE! NO! I was so pissed. I just spent $70 fixing the upper right driver and now the upper left one went out. Im not going to keep on reconing old drivers because Ill fix one...

New bands first gig, already talking about moving

Yeah, you are right im a little trigger happy on giving up on the scene here. But have I played with all the guys for about a year in a previous band that broke up and we created a new band (6 peice band into a 4 peice). I live with two of the guys so we all are pretty close. So we can...

New bands first gig, already talking about moving

This friday was my new bands first gig. I got a call the day before by a guy that books shows in the local area. He had a couple bands that dropped from the lineup and wanted us to fill in. We got real excited since we havnt yet got on stage. So we scurried to get things ready in time to play...

    Amp clipping? huh?

I ended up having the power amp set at 75% and the pre amp at 50% and that was about the max i could get without the clip light coming on (bridged at 4ohm). I even had to turn down the bass and drive down. The sound of it was fine, that didnt scare me at all. Just the light was making me...

    Amp clipping? huh?

My new bands first gig was just friday night and it was the first time my new (well new to me I should say) rig made it on stage. I have a 70's Ampeg SVT810 run by a Crest VS900 power amp and a Sansamp RBI. Ive used it for rehersals with no problem, the guitarist had been using a 20 tube watt...

    First Gig Setup

I would think up to $600 would be better spent on a combo because if you go with a cheaper head and cab combo there is a good chance you will end up replacing the rig down the road. If you get a good combo to start with you can use that until you want to upgrade and then you will still have a...
