    Portaflex PF-50T/PF-115HE or B15?

Hi, Bass player since 1967. Over the years I've owned four of the 60s and 70s B15 amps, also a B15R. I bought a PF-50T about a year-and-a-half ago and have been using it as my main gigging and recording amp. I'm extremely pleased with it. Even though the PF-50T and the B15 are very...

No Prob Kirk. How grumpy and how old do I have to be to join that group? I think I might qualify.

Did that. But first I tried different kinds of picks. Before that different fingers.

Hi JW. As I explained a few posts back. I was convinced the thudiness/deadness was due to a lower end pickup, given the price point. I went on the assumption the pickup upgrade would be the fix. That voided me out of returning it, and I was on my own from there. -Mike

Yeah, it made a drastic difference, but I think it was more due to the extreme thickness of the finish than the material.

Thanks Maplenecked. -Also - The bass was quite noticeably lighter and resonant after the refin.

As I said. I enjoyed the project, and have ended up with an instrument that I'm sure I enjoy more than if I would have bought it with lacquer. This thing kills for playability and tone.

Musicians Friend Review - '50s Model Precision

I enjoyed the project, and as I said, I recouped a good amount of cash selling the neck, pickguard and pickup on ebay. Had I known of the sound deadening finish I certainly would have opted for the lacquer. As it turns out, I have more bass now than if I had done so: - Tele - older P Bass...
