I've wanted to learn bass since I was about 12 and realised that music existed. I mean really existed, not just the chart pap. I became a roadie for all my mates' bands, and was bound and determined to become a sound engineer. However, a husband, kids and the lack of a y chromosome kind of messed that up.

I woke up last week. I found 'All I Need is a Miracle' on YouTube, got severely into Sad Café, thought 'Oh Christ, Paul Young was a year older than me when he died, if I'm gonna start living I'd best get a move on' and here I am. My local music shop has a school attached to it, so I'll be starting lessons in the next week or so, my eldest reckons she's getting me a bass for Christmas, which would be cool, as soon as I know *** I need/want to play and I'm hoping at some stage in the future I can find a band of old codgers like me who still want to play. :)

Favorite Genres
Rock, blues, jazz, anything and everything. The only genre I could say I don't like is C&W and that's the old style. Some of the 'new country' is great.

A decent beginner bass and amp set up. It's been a looooong time since I was near any musical equipment, so Fender Strat and Peavey probably isn't a thing anymore.
Influences and Teachers
I love Jaco Pastorius, which probably marks me out as a newbie! I listened to a lot of Jack Bruce growing up and some Charlie Mingus (my Dad was a big fan)
