    This might actually be a problem with your left hand. from your description i'm not exactly sure what kind of "squeal" you're talking about. You might want to try pushing harder on the neck with your fingers.

    I started with pops, but my teacher recommended nyman. i switched to that and have been using it ever since. a lot of people complain it's too hard, but in my opinion, pops is too soft. nyman actually stays on the bow hairs, as opposed to rubbing off on the strings.

    I have a Glasser 600-something-or-other. love it. i bought a wood bow (forget the brand), really nice, and it practically snapped in half in transit to my first gig (granted, it was in the bottom of a tour bus from utah to southern california). luckily, the retailer is great and gave me a refund.

    If you need to get your Pop's soft, just leave it out on a hot day. it practically turns into liquid. but i would say go with Nymans instead. It's much better.

    haha, in my experience, all cheap middle-school-owned quality bows are good for is, as someone earlier said, is having sword fights with. However, don't go out and buy a new one quite yet. Try a variety of rosins (i use Nymans, it's great), and see if you can borrow a nicer bow from a friend or...
