Least expensive high quality, low-noise passive bass

My bass has a split coil pickup (it's a P-J), and the tone from it alone is too weak/dull. The single coil bridge pickup is too noisy. I am considering replacing that pickup instead.

I can safely say it's the leader so far. But the Jackson is $200 cheaper, so...

Least expensive high quality, low-noise passive bass

I am researching options for a 4-string with humbucking pickups (no single coils), no battery required. These are the only potentially affordable options I've found. Opinions?

Changing Strings Can Do More Than Any Technique

Hi forum, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this. I just wanted to share my tip/anecdote. I played bass for years, but always felt like it was just a bit too challenging. I couldn't bend strings, my fingers got extremely sore/calloused, even just playing on the first fret was too...

Restringing gone wrong. Is the string about to break?

Update: the strings have been on for a few days, have settled into being in tune after being tightened several times, and show no sign of breaking. Thanks @JimmyM for allaying my fears. Lesson learned. :D

Restringing gone wrong. Is the string about to break?

The damage is hard to show without potentially making it worse by peeling away the threading. It's really just a <1mm portion of the threaded string end where the metal is showing. Everything else is totally fine. Could the drops in tone as I'm tightening be caused by twists in the string? On...

Restringing gone wrong. Is the string about to break?

I just screwed up in a big way. I was overly eager to try out some new strings, and I didn't pay attention to the proper way to put them on. I took the G string and I wound it around the tuning peg, close to the beginning of the threaded section, then started tightening it. Just as I got it in...
