No excuses now. Succumbed to GAS attack.

I recently bought a very nice Eden Metro Combo amp. Not only did the Eden amplify the music very nicely it also amplified the shortcomings of my bass, not to mention the shortcomings of my playing. Rather than dealing with sorting out the neck problem, new PU selection, etc of my old Status BG...

    Can "Groove" be taught?

I'm a noob on the bass but not to music. I never realized this was such a nebulous concept among players. It seems to be almost an extension of the line of thought, "Well, I don't know what it is but I know it when I hear it." Maybe we can give examples of what we think are killer grooves...

    Just got my Metro Combo

I DL'd the PDF manual from Eden but I can't seem to find anything about the control knob on the back of the amp near the bottom. A stiff little 0-10 knob. Any ideas?

What to do with this bass?

I'm currently playing a Status Bass. Now before anybody goes ooh ah, ooh ah, graphite neck!!!, this is an old wood neck bolt on. Evidently, Status would just as soon prefer that nobody even knew they made a wood neck model. No support whatsoever. I got it for 300 bucks a couple of years ago...

How do bassist learn songs in 15 seconds at jams?

HaHa. Yeah Moondance would be a toughy if you had never heard it before. Here's how you handle that situation. While listening intently to the band, turn the volume on your bass off and start acting as if you are playing, turn around and look at you amp, wiggle your cord, look at amp again and...

    Sound Advice

I'm a pretty much newbie on bass, and I play clean through the amp, but what I realized years ago was that trying to duplicate a sound heard on a recording is many times impossible to do live. By the time a signal is processed through who knows how many effects and then mixed and compressed by...

    How can I improve?

Wherever you practice, leave that bass out and easy to pick up and play whenever you have a few spare minutes. You will not practice nearly as much if you have to dig it out of a case, tune it, hook up leads, fiddle with the amp etc. Turn it on and start playing.

    How can I improve?

Very good advice. We host a blues jam and it's amazing to see how the bedroom gods struggle when the speed is a few beats slower or faster, or the key is different than they are used to playing. You'll learn very little from players worse than you.

Best musical advice you ever got

Play for the song. Play every other note that you think of. Play like you have something to say, not like you have something to prove.
