What's the Best rig you've played through?

Ampeg SVT with 810 cab. It’s what all amps wish they were.

    Where do you stand?

Left of the drummer, and even with him - always. My reason is simple - I can easily see the high hat hits and the bass drum foot, even with peripheral vision.

So how close are your strings to the fretboard?

To set the relief of the neck, I capo the first fret and press down at the 17th fret (where the neck meets the body on my basses) and measure .012” clearance at the 8th fret. Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

I like the mint green on Sonic Blue

Would you be offended if a band asked you to play a P bass?

Sure. I’ll take the gig. You provide the bass and the amp? Cool. Can you pick me up for gigs? I live in New Orleans. I’d take that gig or any like it in a minute under those conditions.

Blown away by the bass tone

The three most recognizable bass tones IMHO 1. James Jameson 2. Jaco Pastorius 3. Chris Squire Anyone else’s tone is a variation of these three. Many have tried to duplicate their tones, no one has or come close.

If you could only play one bass brand forever

If you could only play one bass brand forever

Easy - back to basics - Fender. Probably on 90%+ of the recordings of electric bass that I listen to. They just sound like a bass. No frills, no fluff, just Bass. Now, P Bass or J Bass??? that’s a harder question for me to answer.

What was your 1st music shop hangout?

Jay’s Music (Sound Post Music) in Marrero, LA. I bought my first bass, a Sekova Beatle bass from that store in 1973. From 13 to 17 years old, we would hang out most Saturdays and soak up as much knowledge about guitars and amps as we could. Lots of great memories.
