I’m not plugged into any dodgy locations, and my amps aren’t very old, maybe 3 years old at most. Also I’m from Canada, but it’s pretty much the same when it comes to electricity and 60hz and whatnot.

The cords for all of my amps are the ones that came in the box brand new, all of them are the North American 3 prong ones.

I feel like I didn’t put it properly, it wasn’t very much of a shock per se, just some static electricity. I don’t know why there would be static electricity because that would indicate a grounding issue.

It was only in one place, and the other places I tried besides my house didn’t have as much hum, but it was also a very noisy place.

I found a surge protector power bar in a junk drawer, but it only lessened the hum. Now touching the metal parts has almost no effect on the hum for all of my instruments. I’ve noticed that tilting the pickups upwards on ALL of my instruments makes it hum more like a single coil, even if I’m not...

The hum disappears completely with the volume down on all of my instruments, but it reappears on all of my instruments, humbucker or not. I just dug up a surge protector from a junk drawer and it fixed some of the hum, but not all of it.

It seems to be the bass judging by how you describe it, but it happens to all of my instruments when plugged in.

I’m in North America and my amps say 60hz, along with the input and such. Nothing really sounds familiar, it’s just a steady hum.

Not usually, but when I bring it near my guitar or bass while it’s on, the sound comes through my amp. The hum is also affected when I plug things into the outlet next to it.

There’s still a tiny bit of hum with the tone rolled off, but not nearly as much. The hum consists of a low growl but also somewhat of a “screeching” sound, when I roll the tone off, the screech goes away, but the growl doesn’t.

Yes, but the humming isn’t affected by the lights. I usually play a jazz bass with both pickups on (basically a humbucker) or just a humbucker.
