Influences and Teachers
My brother took up guitar about 9 years ago and never put it down. He got me into guitar, but I'm both more built for and attracted to bass. I didn't get to play my first bass much because I lived right over my parents and only had the opportunity to play late at night when they were trying to sleep--they didn't like that, and since I didn't get to play very often, my parents ultimately gave my first bass to my brother. After moving out to college, after one particularly lucrative summer job, I decided to get my brother his dream guitar for Christmas--a Gibson Les Paul--and wound up also getting my own dream bass--a Warwick Corvette. Without thin walls and early-to-bed parents to worry about, I picked up that thing and never put it down. I'm still a novice bassist, but I've been steadily and significantly improving. I hope that in comming years I'll be able to say I've become quite skilled at bass, but in the mean time, I'll admit that I am still learning myself.
