Started playing/learning when I was 10/11 years old. Still have the 1972/73 Fender P (slightly modified w/Fralin pups and a BadAss bridge) that my Father bought me for my 15th birthday. Now have more basses and equipment than I will ever need but you only live once, can't take it with ya, plus variety is the spice of life.
