This all makes sense. A new nut is still cheaper than a 5 string. Although, I do actually have a 5 string. Have just always been curious about the sound of this BEAD tuning on, say, a Fender P.

Yeah, could be he was playing a bass that came from the shop strung BEAD. Which is obviously a different prospect to you doing it yourself.

I should have added the caveat that I was taking this info from Wikipedia. I have no idea if it's actually accurate, nor do I feel a great inclination to find out. Quality over quantity for me. Always. I even begrudge bands putting out double albums.
