I'd say the Grace stuff is at the top for both sonic quality and rugged durability. I was apprehensive about spending so much when I bought my first Grace product, but they really are superb. Have used BiX, ALiX, MOXi, and currently use M101 for all my electric gigs. Great company.

Loved my ALiX when I had it. Never let me down in terms of surviving the most nightmare-ish of gig conditions and still being able to quickly dial up a good, useable sound. Can't speak for the EBS pre, but I would def say for me the ALiX is another level up in terms of tone quality vs. Empress...
