DAW and EZ Drum instead of Drum Machine. PC Ableton and EzDrummer

If you’re looking for loops of jazz rhythms to play along with, a DAW is likely more complex than you need, and then you have to find and install loop libraries that have the kinds of patterns you want, which for jazz is not as easy as one might hope. You might instead look at Drum Genius, which...

The Brecker Brothers Band: founders of music school Funk?

Wikipedia says: “Lake Street Dive is an American multi-genre band that was formed in 2004 at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston”

Double Bass NBD - 1891 Ludwig Glasel Berliner

I wonder if Pete Lempe, from Pete’s Upright Bass Shop in Portland might know something about these. You could always give him a call,he’s a good guy.

    Apartment dwellers who play gigs

We recently downsized into a third floor condo with an elevator. I find I can schlep my upright on a Bass Buggy, my Markbass CMD-121P combo, and a Peak portable music stand in one trip down to the garage. It’s nice to live in an era where there are good small and light amps available.

The Brecker Brothers Band: founders of music school Funk?

I remember seeing the Brecker Brothers band at the club the brothers ran in Manhattan in the late 70s, Seventh Avenue South. I remember it as being a very exciting, and very loud and frenetic, show. I like the Brothers as a fusion group, bit I think they’ve both done much of their best and most...

What kind of bass is this?

That is a killer track! Turns out there’s a whole playlist from that performance:

    Double Bass Amplified Arco/Pizz Options

I have used the boost function on the Felix for balancing arco and pizz, and that works pretty well. You could also set up the Felix to have one channel set up for arco and one for pizz with different eq settings. Definitely not an inexpensive solution.

Band becoming LLC, paying members as contractors... Run, or okay?

I think the first thing I’d ask when being told that I’m now a contractor, is “where’s my contract?”. I don’t know any contractors who do work before a contract is agreed to and signed.

Does anybody pay attention to bug reports?

Filters don’t show up on Threads tab

I have had filters set on the Threads tab to show Double Bass Forums only, but now the Filter pulldown is empty. I’m using Firefox on iPad. What’s up with that?

    Double Bass Transcribing validation?

One thing I sometimes do to try and verify my written transcriptions is to input them into a notation program and then play them back to see if it sounds at least close to what I heard.

    MarkBass small size, huge sound

I’ve used an Italian CMD-121P as my main amp for about ten years now. It did crap out on me a couple of years ago, which I wrote about in another thread, but has been working fine since it was repaired. For me, it’s got a sweet, well defined sound that works great for the kinds of music I play...

    Give up fretless?

Hi, Ric - yes, just sold it this past weekend. I had it listed in the usual places for a while with no response, so I put it on consignment at Old Town Music here in Portland. They said the person who bought it said they had been looking for one for quite a while. I’m sad to see it go, but happy...

    Give up fretless?

I hear ya, Doc. I just sold the last of my fretless electric basses. Of course, I mostly play upright these days, so I have plenty of opportunity to engage in inadvertent microtonalism. But somehow, I always felt like it was harder to play in tune consistently up and down the neck on a fretless...

    Double Bass EQ Settings

Lots of good advice in this thread. I’ll just note that my bass, a 2018 Akos Balazs carved bass with a Full Circle pickup, sounds good going straight into my amp, a Markbass CMD 121-P, with all the controls set basically flat. I have to adjust for the room, of course, but generally it’s pretty...
