Please recommend pickups for a fretless bass build.

Did you end up building this bass? How did it turn out?

Thinking of assembling a “versatile” bass for recording - Is this a good idea or a “Homer Bass”?

Good video, thanks. PJ with a switchable 2 band preamp and passive tone really can get it done I think.

actually like the Homer Car but a bass version. Too many features and add-ons and it’s just ridiculous and doesn’t really work as a car. Or bass in this situation.

Thinking of assembling a “versatile” bass for recording - Is this a good idea or a “Homer Bass”?

I bet the filter style preamp would be great on my aforementioned Jazz V with Quarter Pounds.

Oh wow. That M7 is literally what I described. If I get a used one o could probably sell it with little loss if I end up not liking it. And if I love it I could still build a custom Bass with similar specs. Sire is doing some amazing things. Thanks for posting!

Thinking of assembling a “versatile” bass for recording - Is this a good idea or a “Homer Bass”?

You know that’s a great question, typically anything that’s in my head at the time. From garage and pop punk to funk/rock to metal, synthwave or 80’s jazz/pop. Maybe I should just get a Ray4 with a decent pickup/preamp and a Jazz with Aguilar pickups and see if there are any gaps. From my...

Thinking of assembling a “versatile” bass for recording - Is this a good idea or a “Homer Bass”?

I’m thinking of assembling a Bass from Warmoth parts for recording. The idea being that one bass can suffice for most sounds I’d want. Currently I have a Jazz V with Quarter Pounds and an Audiere 4 band preamp. I was hoping that the QPs would be pretty strong in all frequency ranges and the...

MIM Fretless Jazz Pickup/electronics replacement suggestions…

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. I’m kind of split on EMG vs Delano/Wilde w/ preamp. In all honesty I think any option is going to be loads better than the stock pickups, so I’ll probably go with what is immediately available in stock.

MIM Fretless Jazz Pickup/electronics replacement suggestions…

Yes, it’s the double short style. I should have said I’m familiar with the 500XL from Dimebag but not the bass side. Are they similarly hifi and detailed sounding like the guitar pickups?

I’m completely unfamiliar with Wilde, is there a specific model? Or just that structure in general?

MIM Fretless Jazz Pickup/electronics replacement suggestions…

Which Lindy Fralin? I’m only familiar with LF in the guitar world which target vintage tones. I think I’m looking for a more modern sound. Your suggested setup sounds like a perfect first year Jazz Bass setup though! Reviewing the options on his site, I wonder if the split Jazz might fit the...

MIM Fretless Jazz Pickup/electronics replacement suggestions…

Thanks! I’ve got one of the Audere preamps and Quarter Pounders in my Jazz V mentioned above. That’s probably the easiest to install, just mini screws and the battery clip built-in like the EMG J-System. After listening to some YouTube clips I’m wondering if just trying some Dimarzio Ultra...

MIM Fretless Jazz Pickup/electronics replacement suggestions…

I’ve got a 90’s MIM fretless Jazz Bass that plays well, looks great and was sounding decent for practice. Now I am recording (direct in, VSTs) and I’m experiencing the same thing everyone did (and I did with my MIM Jazz V and MIM Strat) the pickups are just awful. Weak but oddly trebly yet...

A question about the Fender Jazz Bass offset body...

This is absolutely the answer! And don’t forget, if you get an exotic wood top, get the matching peg face veneer. Or if you have it painted, paint the pegface as well.

    Poor man’s Zon Hyperbass?

Yes correct, kind of like taking Portrait of Tracy to the next level. This is one of his more well known compositions:
