Help...I've gotten into a long standing habit of beginning with the root of each chord when walking. I'd like to open up my choices to make more interesting lines. Any suggestions?

I have a EA iAMP Micro 300. My guess is that it's 8-10 years old, having bought it used. It puts out a nice upright sound but has a couple of problems. I notice that it occasionally creates quite a bit of static. This may to be related to the power source or perhaps to the detachable power...

I generally play upright through an EA iAMP 300 with a Wizzy 10 cab. I have a musical coming up that requires electric bass. Would I harm my usual rig by playing electric bass through it?

Thanks folks for your thoughtful advice as usual. In the best of all possible worlds I would always like to go without a boost which is in the end likely to change the sound in some unsatisfactory ways. Often we have to find the best option given the circumstances we are in. Your comments...

Looking for a pedal (stomp box, if you will) to boost the volume of my upright during jazz solos. My set up is a Fishman Full Circle, EA iAMP and a Wizzy 10.

Johnny or anyone, A real life illustration is worth a thousand words. Anything you could post as a clip that would illustrate the use of tenths?

I like the fact that he gives us some nice tools (albeit page after page of scales) to apply in our own way but more explaination in this case would really help.

Ray Brown in his Bass Method dedicated well over 20 pages to the practice of tenths. As is is with much else in this method, he didn't say much about the value of practicing and playing tenths or how to apply it to comping and playing solos. Can you use tenths as subsitutes for other chords...

Thanks folks for your excellent replies. I think they're right on target. Singing and notating, I like that! The main thing is this--for more years than I want to admit I worked my way through Simandl, played scales and chord tones. I did my share of bowing, orchestra playing and intonation...

I've been looking for a good method to develop my soloing. I feel like my basic skills are decent but I'm in a bit of a rut and hoping to break through as a soloist. Not seeing much in the way of books that focus on jazz bass soloing. Any ideas?
