Where do you folks even start to learn how to set up a simple home studio?

Please let me know how it works out! I know it's a solution to only one of your questions, but it's a start.

Yes, this is what I was referring to. There are cheaper options than the Radial. "Behringer Ultra-DI DI400P 1-channel Passive Instrument Direct Box" goes for about $22 in the US and would allow you to split your signal to go into your interface as well as your amp separately. Get one labeled...

It's not advisable to use a line out of an interface going into an amp. The line out signal is much hotter/louder than an instrument level signal and you could blow your amp. If you want to use a line out to go into an amp, you would want a re-amp box in between. The other option would be to...

Using UA plugin software with a non-UA DAW - also see the $49 UA Holiday special bundle...

I've used it briefly but haven't dug into it really. Some people really like it, especially for re-amping guitars from what I've read. It does use a lot of processing power though, so you may only be able to get awhile with using a few instances of it depending on your computer.

What is your current recording rig?

Let us know how well the color box works on vocals please! It's a path I considered awhile ago, but I like using an RE-20 which requires a lot of gain, and I wasn't sure about the self-noise on the colorbox as it's not really designed to be a full-force mic-preamp. What mic are you planning...

The only UA plugins you won't be able to use are labeled as UAD 2 or Unison (which requires a UAD hardware interface with DSP to run). Or the few ones specific for LUNA (specifically the summing plugins). Generally the bundles they have been advertising are for native plugins that should work...

What is your current recording rig?

Yeah no problem. Those are some nice 1073's from what I've read. You'll just have to figure out what exactly you're after. There's quite a big price difference between the RNDI+Sushi Box vs the BAE or Heritage. 1073 is great as it opens up options to record a microphone. The Sushi Box might be...

What is your current recording rig?

Still my main chain (I generally compress into the Sushi Box now but I don't think that would make a huge difference). I've tried some other options, but this is still my favorite! I don't have a comparison to a 1073 clone, but it would be a slightly different beast. 1073 gives you some nice...

    Labella Super Polished

Referring to the replacement string being a different level of polish as the first set: Sounds like they're still ironing out the polishing process. It would be interesting to get an idea of how much variability there is between lots and whether that variation decreases over time as they ramp...

    Top 40...anyone playing it?

I won't lie, I've never had a song change so drastically in my eyes (and ears) until I heard The Wiggles cover Elephant - Tame Impala. It's just a wiggles song now, every time I hear it. (Sorry to derail)

The right track for apartment practice?

Ok I'm dipping back in just to mention one last thing. I play DI ~90% of the time and I generally prefer playing clean DI than using an amp sim. Definitely a preference thing but I grew to love the sound of my Jazz without a cab. A good pair of headphones definitely helps though.

The right track for apartment practice?

Fair enough, I didn't look into it very hard, I just know Bluetooth and latency is a tricky thing. I would suggest seeking out confirmation that the latency isn't an issue from someone who plays along in the way advertised. If it works for you that's great, not going to discourage you further...

The right track for apartment practice?

But you still need to plug the bass into the headphone amp, and you still need to plug headphones into the computer. So the only wires you get rid of are the USB input into the computer. If the OP has their computer on a desk, you're not really saving yourself any wires and you're then reliant...

    Painted pickguard: material and finish?

I was thinking that the underside would still be finished with layers of clear coat + sanding. That should hopefully help with flatness, but I still don't know if it would lay flush.
