    using a jazz bass for punk rock

    It's personal choice. I must mention that arguably the most thundering punk bass intro is/was Bill Simpson of the Skids on Into the Valley - 99% sure it was a Jazz Bass as it seemed to be his main or only bass at that time. It certainly seems to have a scooped out sound live and on record.
