I can get his tone with a Peavey Cirrus and a VT pedal. Hands, strings and setup have more to do with tone than the bass they're used on.

Tone is in the hands. I've seen Sheehan play through someone else's combo at a dive and still sound like Sheehan.

Tech21 XXL and MXR blowtorch are the heaviest I know of. You can pick up a used Bass XXL for $50, I didn't like the Blowtorch but it's boulders rolling somewhere. A good example of the XXL is Karnivool's Simple Boy.

Golden. I found it sounds 1000000 times better without a VT behind it. The tightdrive was just running over the VT input even set OFF. It took me some time, because even with the VT bypassed the tightdrive was so middy with no EQ. So, I put my freshly modded GEB-7 behind it and BAM...

I have the mod version with the bass knob, maybe that's the problem? The distortion is nice, but it sounds like its being played through a 6 inch guitar speaker.

I see rave reviews, what is your opinion? I wanted to love it... it has a different sound for sure. I personally don't get it. It's the most colored mid honky tone I've ever experienced. At it's best, in front of a very, VERY mid scooped amp it has potential, even great tones I could maybe...

Today I ran my micro pog high octave fx out through a XXLb, and uneffected bass thru a VT then blended them. While the octave still has a little synthy sound, it's pretty nice when it's back in the mix with enough distortion. I think it'd be sweet live under some solo's etc... I really want...
