    Honestly, I think it's as simple as the confidence to say "yeah we don't need another player we're more than enough" while the band is forming. So you're more likely to have more talented ppl form a three piece.

    A cheaper schecter from about 6 years ago. Probably my favorite neck of all time. Replaced the emg Hzs with some Seymour Duncans but it was just too sterile for me. A fantastic bass in all other respects tho. I regretted letting it go.

    A stopped clock is right twice a day lol Lots of variation in cheaper instruments. If you ask your local music store when new instruments come in and show up early that day you'll find nicer ones. The cheap instruments that are not so good hang around a long time, the happy accidents sell...

    Lower your pickup height to start. You might be surprised. That said, the 63..64? Fender pickup will definitely help you get this sound. I've not seen it mentioned but it feels like that pickup has less winds and less magnetism than others and has a nice, somewhat compact and smooth sound...

    Even if the 600 ohms were provided by a transformer, wouldn't a 15k resistor, even wired to the input jack suffice? And if not please explain as I'm very curious.

    In transformer less designs the input impedence is set by the input resistor. It's not rocket science. Any tech can make this happen.

    At the same time 15k resistors are easy to come by lol Unless this is a transformer input and that is required by the user.

    ART mic preamp seems to fit the bill here. Never used one to drive a power amp but they have lots of gain on tap.

    Well I guess others don't have very good taste in necks lol. I've played lots of squiers and I wouldn't describe any of them as being great. American deluxes are always nice but even american standards can be spotty.
