Ray Higginson

I’m 47 and live in South Wales.
I’ve been a ‘Guitar Nut’ since I was 14 & music is my main passion & hobby.
I don’t own a TV so when I’m not playing guitar or listening to music I love you read; Mark Twain is one of my favourite authors.
I studied nursing at university and then, once qualified, I worked in New Zealand, India & UK. Since qualifying I’ve dual trained as a biology teacher, obtained a PhD in cardiac rehabilitation & I now lecture in physiology at the University of South Wales, teaching nurses, paramedics & midwives human physiology.
At the weekends I love nothing more than playing my guitar & drums (for a good few hours) before burying my head in a book, while I listen to (mostly) jazz.
When I can afford the fees, I also enjoy buying recording studio time, in order to record some of my own compositions. I’m not that keen on live performances anymore - because I find audiences today disinterested in both blues & Jazz.
That said: I do try to attend an annual blues festival, where I can sit-in and jam with the festival’s house blues band.
I have a son - & I try and motivate him to learn the guitar!!
