    Epiphone Grabber

This is probably nitpicking the wrong thing, but the headstock on these is... ick. I don't know if it's the size/positioning of the tuners or the arrow shape being just off in some way (even accounting for the angle, it's not pointy enough, it feels like):

    Headstock Bias

I agree, it's definitely something about the angular aspects of the Ibanez guitar headstock when it gets scaled up in size - it's no longer a sharp sword/tooth-like thing at that size (and I'd venture to guess, like me, you're also not a fan of the Jackson basses with the same scaled-up...

...I'm already building it, knowing that it would be difficult to find an Ibanez neck only to fit it, and at the helpful suggestion of just about everyone else in the thread thus far? Obviously Bruce does great work but that's not what I'm here for.

Yeah it seems like when I was searching for this there wasn't a definitive up or down answer about a rear install, just a lot of debate on the message boards (weird, right?)

Happy New Year! I'm still alive! Went ahead and did the MDF roughed out with Kwikwood filler/wax paper in the pocket to get the shape a couple weeks ago: Drew it out on a 1x6 blank I had laying around (forgot to photograph this) and then roughed it out with a jigsaw and used the flush trim...

Can you elaborate on this a bit? Are you suggesting to drop a board in the pocket to determine centerline for the rubbing? Or just to have a ruler going from the bridge to the pocket? Yes, this was exactly what I was thinking about doing, I just couldn't articulate it well (beyond the initial...

Isn't that the approach for the opposite part, though? If I'm understanding correctly, that would be for the matching the body/pocket route to an existing neck, whereas I'm trying to build a neck to fit the existing pocket.

So let's talk neck heels. When I did my Grabber build with a Warmoth neck, the process for matching those two up was extremely straightforward - route out and shape the neck pocket to the actual shape of the neck, drop it in, bingo-bango. (Narrator's note: in fact, it was not quite so...

Nice! Getting to build a neck AND accidentally clean the storage space up a bit? Sounds like a win!

Actually this kind of brings up a question I've never seen a good answer for - is there a good/cheap/readily-available type of lumber for practicing this kind of thing on? I still have a bunch of 1x6 (nominal) S4S maple stock from a big box store left over from completely different project, but...

Yup, that was my suspicion as well. Guess it's time to pick up some blanks and start practicing!

From the listing (don't have it in hand yet):

I guess my concern here would be that there simply wouldn't be enough surface area on a replacement 20/21 neck to bite into with it being an offset 5 screw pattern (instead of a rectangular 4 screw setup.)

Experience and mistakes are the best teacher, right? Well... I just impulse-bought a loaded Ibanez RDGR body-only for $60-some as a winter project without thinking much beyond "slap a new neck on it and go rattle the house" before realizing that those normally came with a 24 fret neck on a 34"...
