An additional question: with a Fender style neck design, is there any advantage in locating the truss rod access at the one end of the neck over the other?

I am building a short scale (30”, 19 fret) bass and am wondering what gauge string would work best for the B. Being the lowest note string on a 5-string instrument, I have been advised that it might need to be a heavier gauge to insure proper tension. Any advice?

I am building a Fender style neck for a custom 5-string, 19 fret, 30”, short scale bass. I would like to find a narrow width bridge to keep the overall width of the neck at the 19th fret as narrow as possible. Due to the short scale length, most of the standard, 34” scale, 5-string bridges are...
