Regarding the pickups on this bass, if I wanted to drop some SD quarter pounders in it, could I not just buy the "set" because of the size? Also, if I have to buy two neck pickups, it's not going to automatically cancel out any hum like the neck and bridge together, correct? I'd have to manually...

Tempting at that price. Probably would be worth it if you are able to do the paint right. Especially since they are going for around $1500 on ebay, which is insane.
