Rob the Obscure
When I was 12, and trying to decide if I wanted to play bass or guitar, my brother (a guitarist with his own motives) exposed me to several compelling bass lines. These included, "Something" by the Beatles, "Ramble On" by Led Zeppelin, and the kicker for me: Badge by Cream. The moment I hear Jack Bruce's very effective cascade of notes, I said, "I want to play that." I've been hooked ever since. I've also taken up other instruments--even playing Guitar in the Fresno City College Jazz Band, but that was a different century. Bass remains my true musical love, and I'm blessed with being our church bassist. What a great gig! I never have to take my amp home, and I'm playing with musicians who won't show up wasted! When I'm not composing sermons or lessons, I'm composing music, which I sometimes actually record. I also tend to tinker with my basses. I don't really like doing it, but I like the results.
