I know this thread's ancient but just wanted to thank those who posted - I was on the brink of selling my GK as I couldn't get a decent sound that cut through, but starting off with some of the settings above and tweaking from there I got a great sound at practice last night. Much obliged.

Thanks for that, have used some cotton wrapped round it several times and i'll put some electrical tape round that just to double it up. Cheers for the advice. New string plays much better at the higher tension anyway so it was worth it!

Just changed an E string for the first time (a Golden Slap to a Rockabilly) and got there eventually, but in the process of installing, the very end of the string started to unwind a little so I now have about an inch of metal winding sticking out the end. Is that normal, or have I inadvertently...

Just a quick update (appreciating its not that interesting!) I did manage to bow the Golden Slaps, used quite a bit of Pops rosin on the bow and wasn't too bad. Sure many other strings would be better, but certainly sounded good enough for now. Going to save up for some Velvet Garbos eventually...

Some Velvet Blues have come up at a decent price very slightly used - any thoughts on if the Blues might cover all three bases (bow, pizz, slap)?
