Ok, i said I'd get back to you folks... I tried the markbass 112 combo and found that a similar thing in the low end to what bullhorn described in his initial post. ie it was lacking definition in the low notes on the e string (below g for me)..so I took it back to the shop and swopped it for...

Bullhorn...you're not alone Regarding that e-string thing on markbass..I had exactly the same thing on my jazz bass - cmd 112p combo - when I played a low G or below I could hear this sub-tone but not enough of the actual note.. So I took it back thinking that it must be the small cab size...
