Check out the Aguilar Tonehammer as a preamp. It sounds great and ive run it into my Crown xti 1000 a few times. It ca totally do that pushed SVT grind sound with tons of bass or a smoother sound. There is some hiss with the crown, but my 60's Acoustic 150b has some and so did my SWR basic 350...
