The B-string on my $1400 PJ bass (ESP LTD AP-5) sounds like ass compared to the B-string on my $400 HH bass from 13 years ago.

So good news, ESP under warranty just replaced the bass outright for me. It was considered outside of tolerance for them, and it sounds great now. My only issue is the B-string rattles with my playstyle, but I think that's because the factory strings are too low gauge (.125), so I'll change them...

Thanks. Took it to Guitar Center and the techs there gave me good vibes so I trust em. I might or might not be wrong about the whole red line of AP-5 being a lemon. He used a metal rod (taped at the end to prevent scratching) to locate the coils, and it seems that unlike the above schematic for...

When I pluck it upwards with fingers (i.e. away from the pickup of which it barely covers), the sustain is pathetic, it drops out almost immediately. When I downpick with a plectrum (i.e. towards the magnets), it has output and sustain. From my later post comparing it to the blue and black...

    NBD (x2) - ESP LTD AP-5

Buyer beware, you're liable to get a lemon with the red one. I cover it in this thread....sorry for necro, but it's important this gets coverage. Unacceptable as the most expensive variant of the bass...

As you can see with prior post, the Candy Red run of the AP-5 is...a bad one. Check out this listing for a used Pelham Blue AP-5... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Then the red... [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]...

OK, so, I think the WHOLE LINEUP of the Candy Red versions of the ESP LTD AP-5 is bad. Check out the original official listing on Wayback Machine. AP-5 Then compare it to a black AP-5 [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] You can see how tenuous it is, especially when running it through a...

I've changed all the strings at this point, and I'm actually somewhat suspicious the upper split coil pickup was installed incorrectly, period. I tried raising it, but then it hit the strings, while the GC tech lowered it quite far. Compared to this listing and this one the B-string seems to...

Hey all, So, I got myself an ESP LTD AP-5 back in March in that awesome satin red, but in hindsight, I really have to wonder if I should have got the AP-4 instead. While it wasn't set up at the ESP warehouse (Reverb authorized seller), I did have a quick'n'free pickup adjustment done at Guitar...

String spacing on Schecter Model-T Session-5?

Yeah, it's tough. I'm still in a return window, and I love the tone and HUGE tonal versatility provided by the passive controls (I'm not wild about the Model-T Session having a bass/treble boost/cut rather than passive tone). It feels high quality, pro-level, and it's literally everything is...

String spacing on Schecter Model-T Session-5?

Is it 17mm? I have become very comfortable on my ESP LTD D-5 which has 17.5mm spacing. I have skinny fingers of average or maybe below average length for a male, so when I dropped $1.4k on an ESP LTD AP-5, I was disappointed to find it had 19mm spacing, which is apparently the standard for...
