how do these fretless basses compare sound wise?

Really? I didn't know jaco used fretted basses. I just wanted to know the specific tonal difference between the two fretless models (in the sense that the strings on the jaco model were changed to the roundwounds) because like i said i'm wondering if i should just modify a fender MIM 60s jazz...

can the fender mike dirnt p bass give me that vintage p bass sound?

Yeah both have the custom shop 59 pickup and and some vintage 50s p basses come with either ash or alder, the MD is ash. So far the only thing i decided on is buying the MD over the custom shop and changing the roundwounds to flats for that true vintage sound.

Are you saying that the mike sirnt model isn't all that great or are you just saying it's different? can i still get some sort of classic p bass tone from it with the custom shop pickups? what is a good backup bass

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried out the Cv p bass twice and i do agree it's good, but each bass i get i want to sound almost completly distant from eachother. The Cv p bass and my deluxe p bass special both have alcino vintage pickups, so i don't want it to sound too similar.

what is a good backup bass

I just got a fender deluxe active mim p bass special and i like it alot. but i was thinking of getting a cheap back up bass that has a great set up, a good, versatile, yet distinct from my active bass. what one of these basses best fits that? (if it helps i am a jazz fusion/ heavy metal player)...

can the fender mike dirnt p bass give me that vintage p bass sound?

American standards are good basses, but the sound just didn't 'click' to me. it felt like something was missing. And plus the neck pickup on the jazz can give me a pretty close tone to the p pickup.

can the fender mike dirnt p bass give me that vintage p bass sound?

"Pricey. I assume this is a single coil model. I have a real '55, and love it, though I don't gig it anymore. Very different from the split-coil P-basses." Actually it's a split pickup model. "Don't have experience with this older RI. Again, I'd assume the Road Worn would compare...
