Alternatively, this should do the trick. All resistors have the same values. With all the switches closed, the gain is 0dB. With one switch open, +6dB, with 2 switches open +9.5dB, with 3 switches open +12dB.

I agree. I've done some complex gain control with microcontrollers and digitally controlled amplifiers but for a boost pedal I'm not sure it's worth it. A rotary switch with a few trimpots inside the pedal would be a much simpler solution.

What does everyone think to my preamp design?

It looks a little bit optimistic :) Slider posts are tricky to assemble and unless one needs a visual comparison between the setting of different sliders, there isn't too much point in using them. They are also easy to move by mistake and they are not as robust the rotary ones. You may want to...

I'm not sure I understand the idea. The pedal should have a on/bypass footswitch and a 5-position switch to set the gain between very-low, low, 0dB, high, very-high. Is it correct?

...and a huge thank for all the comments and the kind words about my work. I better return back to my workbench now. :D

I should come here more often :( I have been busy with pedals, custom shops, emails, suppliers... If you have questions that you think would be interesting to other people as well please do ask here and send me an email with the link to the question. In this way you'll get the answer and other...

Another way to see it is this: the fact that removes the octave or not is unimportant. It removes what the amplification system cannot manage. If an amplifier/cab can manage it, the micro-Thumpinator doesn't touch it. Apart from other considerations (e.g. buffering), the micro-Thumpinator is...

The SP2 has no compressor in it. In fact, SP2 and micro-EQ are very similar. The EQ section for instance is the same. The SP2 is, roughly speaking, a 2 channel micro-EQ. There are a few differences between the two. The first is that the SP2 has a higher input impedance (3.3M ohm vs 1Mohm). This...

    Shout out for SFX

99% of [sfx] production is original design. There are limited cases where I review/re-engineer ideas that have been around for a while. In all these case, the circuit is reviewed and functionalities modified. More in general, the vast majority of electronic units on the market (pedals or...

Apologies for the late post. Thank you Dee-man - it was a pleasure working with you on the project. Thank also for the very kind words of the other posts.

    DOD Meatbox reissue: distortion

It is a very good idea. You may want to consider to make the PDF in a format that when/if printed produces small cards instead of a standard A4/letter pages. The small cards can be cut from the A4/letter page and put in the original packaging. I've tried to experiment with instruction cards...

On a different subject, did you receive a manual with the pedal? I received a sealed box but there was no manual in it.

    DOD Meatbox reissue: distortion

You can use it as an OC2-like pedal. Around 50/50 to beef up the tone and make it a little bit synth-like. It should sound great especially if keep the sub overdrive going. Just in case someone is interested to the technical details, I checked an old schematic I found on the net. Essentially...

Definitely  Considering they made less than 3000 of them, I'm pretty sure it will hold its value. If you don't like it, keep it for a couple of years and sell it for a profit :D Regardless, it's a cool pedal.
